Bike rack:Second Bike Art Installation In Downtown Geneva

Bicyclists coming to downtown Geneva have a new spot where they can park their bikes and simultaneously enjoy fine art.

Located at the southeast corner of State and Fourth streets, Geneva's newest addition to the Bike + Rack = Art program is titled "A Unique Cycle" and unites fine art, a functional bike rack and the imagination. The Geneva Cultural Arts Commission and City leaders held a dedication ceremony Oct. 3 for the second installation of the bike rack art program, which was created to promote more sculptures throughout the downtown.

"This piece is a fun addition to Geneva's public art landscape. Created by Geneva resident James Jenkins, it illustrates the incredible artistic talent that can be found in our City," said Geneva Cultural Arts Commission Chairman Tim Vetang.

Jenkins is known for his ability to create fine art with a functional purpose. His sculptures provide a theme for both intellectual and visual curiosity. Visitors to "A Unique Cycle" will have fun searching for the various messages contained within the sculpture.

The $3,000 Geneva project was funded by the Cultural Arts Commission with the help of a $1,000 donation from Mill Race Cyclery in Geneva. Mayor Kevin Burns thanked both the Commission, Jenkins and Mill Race Cyclery owner Bruce Heidlauf at the Oct. 3 ceremony for their contributions that brought the distinctive bike rack to the community.

The commission's first bike rack sculpture, "Welcome Rounds," was designed by artist Weston Lambert in 2014 and installed near the northeast intersection of Campbell and Third streets.
